Cancer Drug Sales Could Hit $80 Billion By 2011
As reported by Reuters today, sales of cancer drugs will grow at nearly double the rate of the global pharmaceutical market and could reach $80 billion by 2012, according to IMS Health, which tracks prescription drug sales. Loosely translated: there is no fucking cure in site and people are probably not working all that hard to find one, given these profit margins. Now I may be biting the hand that feeds me, as I am a pharmaceutical advertising copywriter, but what’s behind this headline is pure and abject greed. Let’s keep all these people nice and sick so we can rake in the profits. We put men on the moon, we can pictures and videos with cell phones, we have several medications out there that can help men get and an erection (notice I was not crude here, i could have said hard-on or boner), and they are spending billions each day figuring out new ways to fuck things up (translated: new weapons systems). What we need is a global Manhattan Project to find a cure for cancer. We managed to gather the best minds together when we needed to build an Atomic Bomb. Why not gather them to work on curing this disease, which is on the rise again and showing up in people at a younger age. If not a cure, then a treatment that will treat it like a chronic condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression and chronic assholitis (oops, they have not cured that one yet, that may be hopeless). Never mind restless leg syndrome. Let’s jump on this one, and say we accomplished one decent thing before the decade is out. Then we can do something about the next issue that is pox upon humanity – American Idol.
