I’ve Graduated from MySpace
And so it goes, I think today I have graduated from MySpace. I’ll keep that page up and do the blog over there, but I am about to turn 43 years old, which is ancient for myspace. Plus all the annoying ads on the page for companies and products I do not endorse. Basically, This blog is a universal blog, meaning it will cover a lot of things. And it will be a daily blog. I am a writer. Now in terms of being a published writer, with a screenplay, book, TV script, no, not yet. But soon. But I am one of the fortunate writers who make a living writing. I work as an advertising copywriter. It’s not high art by any stretch of the imagination, but it pays the bills. My specialty is healthcare and pharmaceutical advertising, which is a real technical area, as the materials I write are targeted primarily to physicians and other health care providers. It’s very dry work, with an occassional glint of creativity. I promise you dear readers that you will rarely see any writing about the healthcare market. I have a lot more interesting things to say. Here’s what you may find here on this blog: My political views, analysis and predictions. Movie and Restaurant Reviews. I will definately be pimping some of my favorite independent musicians and artists and writers since the established Media and Entertainment conglomerates insist on serving us up crap on a daily basis. What other tidbits might you find on this blog. Well, I live in New York City, so I am never short of subject material. I see about a million little mini-movies between the time I get my cup of coffee and Newspaper in the morning before I hop on the subway and on the subway ride, until whichever office I happen to be working in. You see, I am a freelancer, which means I work as a contract employee. Advertising agencies basically rent me for a fee and I perform whatever tasks they require. By tasks I do mean tasks that involve writing and creating advertising. So you may se some stuff here about what it it is like being a freelancer. If you think it’s easy – think again. Freelancing has its rewards, but you have to bust your butt to get clients and maintain them. You have to keep good records for the taxman. You have to collect your money. You have to manage said money. That being said, it still feels good to be self-employed. I need that in my life right now. I am making some life changes that are positive and affirmative, but they require me to be present for myself, and that means not being Mr. Advertising Executive Man, which, being on staff, is a requirement. I may be going back to graduate school in the fall, which should be interesting, since I have not set foot in a classroom in 21 years. This will lead to a career change, which will also be discussed here. I am currently working on two book writing projects and am hoping to get one of them published or at least a deal done by the end of the year. This one is the boring one – the textbook/how to, but it’s definately marketable and there is a need for it. I’ve done my homework. Now I have to get a “GULP” literary agent to shop this around to the publishers. If I get a green light, all I have to do is write the thing and sit back and collect the money. The second book is much more exciting but I will go into more detail on that later. So I will be writing about that, and if you are thinking about getting published, you may want to follow that saga. Okay, so that’s it for now. I am telling you, I am privvy to some real interesting and exciting information. I have the inside scoop on a lot of industries and institutions – Politics, Entertainment, Publishing, The Media. There may be some gossip thrown in here for good measure. Okay, so look forward to the next post – All About Scott and Other Useless Bits of Information
